Piedmont Appalachian Trail Hikers

PATH Activity Schedule

Volunteer trips are the 3rd Saturday of each month March through October. Generally, members meet Friday evening at Stony Fork Campground or at Konnarock/USFS Facilities in Sugar Grove. Groups are dispatched to the trail on Saturday morning usually around 8am and back to camp about 4pm. Saturday evening is usually a pre-arranged group meal in camp or at a nearby restaurant. Sunday's activities are up to individual members, with a mixture of organized hikes and freelance activities. For the location of Stony Fork Campground, see PATH Trail Area map.

For detail information on how to reach our camp and work sites see Driving Directions.

It's always a good idea to phone or e-mail one of the trip coordinators to let them know you're coming. Occasionally circumstances prevent us from meeting at Stony Fork. If you call ahead, we'll make sure you get to the right place. See PATH's Officers and Contacts page for contact information.

To stay up to date with the latest on trip plans and other activities, consider subscribing to the PATH e-mail list.

The 2017 PATH Volunteer Schedule is shown below. All work days are on the third Saturday of the month. Some months, there is a hike scheduled also. Free Camping is available on the Primitive sites at Stony Fork Campground 5 miles North of Wytheville just off of I-77. Fill out a card at the Kiosk and put on the card that you are with PATH. Hang the stub on your inside rearview mirror. This will let the host know who you are and what you are doing. Use only sites with no electrical hookups.

We will be working out of one of 3 sites during the season (Stony Fork, USFS/Konnarock- Sugar Grove Work Center and in the field). Always check the itinerary posted by the Trail Maintenance Coordinator prior to the scheduled weekend for which site we will be working out of. You are always welcome to stay at Stony Fork. It is about a 45 mile trip to Sugar Grove from Stony Fork.

There is NO CELL PHONE service out of Sugar Grove. Some people have been able to get out at MRNRA at the top of the mountain.

The EMERGENCY number for Sugar Grove is: 276.677.4055. This number is for emergencies only and not friendy chatter. Limit calls to less than 10 minutes and do not take phone to your pod. The Trail Maintenance Coordinator may also receive calls notifying him of cancellations or changes in individual's plans.

The USFS and ATC have been gracious enough to provide this phone and also internet access 365 days of the year. We are very appreciative of this.
