Steven, thanks for the report, & for reporting hours to Paul Clayton.Conner & his crew are working their way towards Chestnut Ridge, probably get there a few weeks from nowYes, probably more locals are getting to Chestnut Knob, getting out due to COVID & knowing it is easy to get to.Send receipt for brooms, etc., to David Faucette for reimbursement. A shavings barrel set up just north of FS-222 for NOBO would help getting shavings up there.Ed Martin & his crew could help with that. Was the shelter tagged with "Girl Scout Troop 180, 2021" ???Many shelters including Partnership & through Virginia & north have been tagged. Big wigs in USDA Forest Service are involved & plan to contact them.Jim

Jim,
Feel free to forward
on to the list or who I should email my report to. I reported hours to Paul.
Saw no hikers today. Walker gap road
is bit rough but passable.
Springs are not
flowing but water is available.
Grass is very high as
it always is this time of year. It
could use the strip mow along the AT path just to get the grass out of the path
way.
Cut one tree cross
the path, pruning, water bar work.
Remove trash at the shelter. Enough to fill quarter of large trash bag. Majority of the trash looks to be ‘local’ and
not backpacker type of trash.
Shelter could use a
new register, pen and a new broom. I’m
buying a new broom per year now. Maybe need to buy a more expensive heavy duty
one.
Added port to privy. I plan on sliding the privy over this Fall. Rough half
full. 3 buckets in the privy and could
use some wood chips.
Also decided it
would be easier weedeater the chestnut open view in the late Fall when the vegetation
is not as full and thick.
Take care all.
