Hi Jim & Betsy,

Four years ago I submitted a funding proposal to the NPS in the goal of getting some NPS-AT funds directly to clubs (or at least as directly as I could). That 7-club project was approved and funded – with ATC having access to those funds
now. This first year the NPS used a fixed dollar/mile formula which amounts to $3900 for PATH.

This is a ‘cyclic’ project so the same work can’t be funded back-to-back years, but this type and similar amount of funding will be coming your way each year. This first round is capturing trail/vegetation clearing, next year is tread and
drainage maintenance, the third year is back to trail/vegetation clearing, etc.

My intent for these funds was to offset routine costs y’all take on – for trail/vegetation clearing these funds could cover equipment(folding saws, loppers, crosscut/chainsaws(and sharpening), axes, fuel containers, weedeaters), PPE (chaps,
hardhats, safety glasses, gloves), safety (first aid kits & supplies, SPOT devices & plans, first aid & CPR training<perhaps combining funding with neighboring club(s) to sponsor a course – I can help with this>), or anything else related to keeping the trail
prism clear (a new DR Mower?) – feel free to be creative, the worst APPA can say is “No”.

In terms of getting these funds to the Club, there are two options: 1) the club makes the purchases and sends me receipts, and ATC cuts a reimbursement check; or 2) Club and I coordinate, and ATC makes the purchase directly. If you choose
option 1) just let me know what you’ll be purchasing to make sure it fits within NPS-APPA’s funding parameters.

Generally speaking we’ve got a year to spend these funds, around this time next year we’ll have another batch of funds to spend down.

Let me know how you’d like to proceed!
