Greetings!
Please share the attached information from Leanna accordingly. Any questions, I suggest asking at the Friday VARO call if there is one or contacting Andrew, Kathryn or Leanna.
RPC Reps - Please check my distribution list to be sure the right individuals in your club are included. I'm pretty sure I am missing someone. If you could let me know of any needed additions or deletions, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Theresa

Subject: RPC - Update to Clubs on COVID-19 Protocols for Field Work
PCRC & Regional Staff: The Adaptive Recovery Task Force met recently to discuss updates to the protocols for field work in light of COVID-19.
Please share with your Regional Partnership Committee. This information will also be in The Register, set to publish on Wednesday.
The guidelines for field work are being updated and will be posted to the website at this location
https://appalachiantrail.org/get-involved/volunteer/safety/covid-19/ soon. For your convenience, this is a quick look at the status of updates to the guidelines.
The COVID-19 JHA is up-to-date and still in effect.
Privies are now open for use and maintenance along the entire A.T. Cleaning and maintenance should follow Privy JHA and COVID-19 JHA guidelines. The known exception for privies is in North Carolina; volunteers in need of more information should contact ATC’s Southern Regional Office staff or their local district.
There is still concern that shelters - occupied by people from different households - pose a public health risk for COVID-19 transmission. For that reason, shelters remain closed for public use on APPA lands, per the NPS Public Health Office. That being said, during the last iteration of the adaptive recovery guidelines, there were allowances made for a maintainer (or ones from the same household) to address maintenance needs - provided they aren't in the airspace of others, etc. Maintainers should follow trash JHA along with other applicable JHAs for work on shelters.
Related to carpooling for people working the field, the guidance still discourages ridesharing from different households. If there are important reasons to carpool, then occupants that are not members of the same family should maximize distancing within the vehicle whenever possible and must always wear masks. According to the CDC, for domestic travel in shared public/shared transportation settings, masks should be worn over the nose and mouth. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html Refrain from touching surfaces, if possible, when riding in a vehicle. Improve the ventilation in the vehicle, for example, by opening the windows or setting the air ventilation/air conditioning on non-recirculation mode. Volunteers should follow CDC guidelines regarding hygienic practices, such as using alcohol wipes to disinfect surfaces or using hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol, or washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Masks that cover nose and mouth should be worn by field workers when 6' of space can not be maintained, either between workers, or on busy trail sections.
Tool sharing is still discouraged, but people handling tools should continue to place emphasis on proper hand hygiene. If you need to share tools, make sure to sanitize, wash your hands, and don’t touch your mouth or eyes.
Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns about any of this information.
