Bill, Piedmont Appalachian Trail hikers(PATH) has discuss this issue over and over and over, with regards to food storage at our shelters.This new policy, having hikers carry a food canister, solves that issue.It puts the responsibility where it belongs, with the hiker.Food hanging cables, poles for hanging food and bear boxes require regular maintenance, and do no good for hikers camping away from the shelters.Let's spread the word to the 2022 thru hikers & others.Jim Houck Club President Piedmont Appalachian Trail Hikers(PATH)
